We are smack bang in the middle of winter in Down under!
Our winter falls between June – August, our ski fields in New South Wales and Victoria are at peak with the icy winds blowing up north to Queensland.
This year I am sure it is the coldest and windiest it has been for a very long time. Last week the average temperature in Brisbane during the middle of the day has been 14°C (57°F). Pretty cold for us Queenslanders whose’ average summer is between 31-33°C (88-91°F)!
I and what feels like nearly every other person in Brisbane have fallen sick with the dreaded cold and have been hiding indoors trying to stay warm and going totally stir crazy!
Amber and Indy are also feeling the cold with Little Indy preferring an afternoon stroll over a chilly morning walk. Miss Amber even though also feeling the chill, is always rather enthusiastic to endure the chill factor if it means squeezing in “walkies”. She becomes extra frisky and extra bouncy the chillier it becomes. Odd considering she is a born and breed Queenslander whilst Indy is a New South Wales escapee!
Because of the weather Amber and Indy were well over due for their baths, Ralph’s pad was in a true disarray, the grass dry and swathed in leaves, even the outdoor setting had a film of blown in dust. It was time for everything and everyone to get wet!
Sunday was a lovely day, the wind had dropped to just a light breeze and the sun rays lovely and warm. After being cooped up in the house with colds and attempting to keep out of the wind and chill, it was agreed a day in the winter sun at home might be nice.
Amber and Indy really enjoy days like this. They are utterly content to entertain themselves by flipping, flopping, fossicking, sunbaking, munching leaves, wrestling, chilling out and lots of zoomies.
Ralph got into the mood with a bath to brighten his feathers and a sing along with the resident wild Rainbow Lorikeets and Blue Faced Honeyeaters in the Bottlebrush tree.
Next stop the notorious Ekka westerlies blow into Brisbane! Brrrrrr…….
