Look Out…Indy’s In The House!

Squeaky Toy!

Indy has just had his final vaccination and now only has to endure another week of home isolation before he can explore past the front door!

All this isolation time has been driving him crazy, watching Amber’s comings and goings each morning and afternoon for her walk!   He bounces around the floor in bubbling animation as Amber waits patiently on top of her “dressing table” ready for a quick brush over of her beautiful coat – she does have to look presentable in public!

Amber whisks past him to the front door with barely a glance over her shoulder.  Indy bounding behind, grasps desperately onto her harness in what appears a hopeless attempt in preventing her from leaving.  Amber will have none of this and pushes him aside “excuse me this is my special ‘one on one’ time”.

Indy’s first week was spent learning Amber’s rules:

  • No I do not like my tail pulled
  • No I do not like my ankles bitten
  • No you cannot pull my fur
  • No you cannot drink from the water bowl with me
  • No you cannot lay next to me
  • No I do not want to share my treats
  • No I do not like being jumped on when I am asleep
  • No I will not share special time on the lounge with my mum

With all this learning what he “could” and “could not” do, Indy has adapted really well to all the changes and is notably quite a quick learner.  He still does try on a few old tricks from the “No you cannot do” list each day, which usually results is a stern growl and stand over glare from Amber.

Indy’s following weeks have run much smoother!  Amber has relaxed the rules and now seems to have decided having this little living squeaky toy in the house is not so bad after all and more often than not can be quite fun and even entertaining to have around.

There are however two things that Amber does not tolerate very well:

  1. Anyone disturbing her sleeps
  2. Anyone stealing her treats

Indy has this sneaky habit of sliding up very gently next to Amber which at first glance appears to be a genuine “I want to cuddle” request only to seize a treat right from Amber’s mouth and dash away; and dash he must as quickly as his little legs can go.  I do not need to tell you how that little performance ends.

Amber is a very deliberate eater, daintily taking little morsels from her plate and eating them ever so leisurely, happy to leave her plate and return a short time later for a further nibble.  Indy on the other hand is a “foods up, let’s eat” kind of boy!

Which leads me to announce, dinner time is still a work in progress where separate feeding stations is essential!

Now Indy, let’s look at what is appropriate behaviour when Amber is sleeping!
