Corey was never much of a water baby. Don’t get me wrong, he loved nothing more than going to the beach, digging in the sand, chasing seagulls and crabs. He did not though enjoy the rolling ocean, let alone standing still enough to allow the ocean lap upon his paws. Too scary!
Last Christmas I bought Amber a blow up paddling pool. I was hopeful that if I started her early she might end up enjoying a little dip. She so adorns the beach, with the digging and the chasing but again like Corey, she is not so keen on splashing. To be more precise she does not like cold water. At bath time if the water is deemed too cold by her judgment, she is sure to let out a short and sharp squeal of disapproval.
When Indy came along it was winter, a little too chilly to try out the paddling pool. Now spring is here and the weather is quickly warming up, with 30°C forecast for this week. I decided once again to drag out the paddling pool from the shed.
Amber immediately recognised the crinkled up plastic thing that when air was pumped into would grow into a scary vessel that carried cold water! She did exactly the same thing as last Christmas, perform zoomies all around the yard in nervous excitement while jumping in and out of the empty pool. Indy watched Amber’s strange performance with a little nervous yet keen curiosity.
Finally with hose secured inside the pool I turned on the tap, only to watch in surprise as Indy jumped straight in. He tippy toed around as it slowly filled.
After a couple of minutes, Indy was putting his nose under water to rescue toys while jumping in and out like an Olympic Swimmer!
Amber stared at Indy in disbelief before performing zoomie laps around the pool in excitement, while I stared in wonder! Had I finally scored a water baby?
With all fingers and toes crossed I am hoping that maybe Indy can teach Amber how to do the ‘Water Dance’.
