It is not just us humans that find Mondays a drag!
It is official, Amber does not like Mondays one little bit. She has just spent a whole weekend lapping up loads of playtime, cuddles, sleep-ins, beaches, parks, walkies, cafes and play dates so as far as Amber is concerned Mondays mean the work routine begins and 100% all day attention dissipates to just 50%.
Even after her daily morning walk Amber will attempt every single trick in her ever-increasing book to encourage me to abandon my duties.
As I am spotted heading to the shower she cuts in front trotting along like a show hack pony, checking over her shoulder that I am still ‘following’. Abruptly stopping at the foot of my bed she gives me her winning look, the sweetest blinking ‘Please Pick Me Up’ eyes. This single expression has proved to work very well for Amber; it has won her own way countless times. It can be tricky to circumvent around her before being drawn into that look.
If she has been unsuccessful in hindering my movements so far, she immediately shifts onto her next fine tuned trick.
The ‘I really really need to go to the toilet’ routine, this is where Amber races to the back door desperately squealing little baby crocodile tears and pawing the screen door that suggests ‘Quick if you don’t hurry I’m going to go right this second on the floor’. I wait a little bit longer just to be sure she is not faking it. Amber can be so convincing that I start to suppose that maybe she actually does need to go! I swing open the door to have my mischievous little madam quickly seize a toy and perform figure eight zoomies all over the yard! Yep, she has succeeded in conning me again.
Once outside Amber is by no means keen to come back in, knowing if she willingly returns what entirely monotonous day is in store for her. After some time of trying to coax her to come back in, my patience begins to turn to desperation as I glance at my watch and see the single minutes turning to blocks of minutes, I revert to bribery (aka: positive reinforcement). In my most pleasant of happiest tones I announce ‘Amber want a treat?’ It works 90% of the time! I have also discovered if I ‘knock’ on the front door, thinking there is a visitor at the doorstep, Amber will bolt back inside the house keen to see who is here. This has a 100% success rate (I do not want her to become desensitize to this brilliant trick, I only use it when I really have to!)
Now thoroughly exhausted from performing zoomies for the last 15 minutes Amber finally settles down on her pillow. This gives me a window of thereabouts 30 minutes to go through my inbox before Amber ‘Really really needs to go to the toilet’ again!
