Brisbane Riverside Garden Markets

For over 22 years the Brisbane Riverside at the Pier Markets has been located at Waterfront Place on Eagle Street.  I discovered recently that on 6th December 2015 the market closed and was renamed and relocated just 10 minutes walk away on Alice Street within the main entrance of the City Botanic Gardens.  The Riverside Garden Markets operate every Sunday between 8am – 3pm. Entrance is FREE and it is DOG FRIENDLY!

The City Botanic Gardens is our city’s oldest park sprawling across 200,000m² (49 acres). Originally planted by convicts in 1825 with food crops to feed the prison colony it was later transformed with many rare and unusual botanic species planted and re-opened to the public as a premier public park and recreational facility in 1855. Located on Gardens Point in the Brisbane CBD it is bordered by the Brisbane River, Parliament House and one of Australia’s top university campuses QUT.

What an awesome and historic location!

We decided to check it out and after driving just a couple of loops were able to secure metered street parking just outside the main entrance.  Score!

The first thing I noticed about the new location, it is much more dog friendly then the former location with various shady trees and cool green grass to take a rest.

Amber and Indy were the only “Pappys” at the market and as usual they did have their fair share of admirers asking an array of questions, mostly “what breed are they” and of course, could they have a pat. They were kindly offered some liver treats to try by a stall holder selling super cute doggie outfits and a range of yummy naturally dried treats. They were devoured!

After checking out the markets and listening to a few tunes of the live band, we ventured out to the gardens strolling past lovely large ornamental ponds, spurting water features, bronzed sculptures, stunning Chrysanthemums and weeping figs. What a beautiful city Brisbane truly is!

There are an ever growing number of responsible pooch parents and we are proving our fur-babies are well behaved, we keep them on lead and we pick up after them!  Paws up to you because now many more public events, such as our markets are beginning to embrace the relationship we have with our dogs and accept them with open arms (and doggie poo bags on site!).
